MAKE YOUR ARNOLD PALMERS WITH APPLE JUICE!!

This was the sound of the voice inside my head while I was frantically trying to get a new drink recipe out the door at work so I could photograph it and get the hell out of town so we could jump in the river.

I was steeping black tea into hot @martinellisco apple juice because I didn’t have time to infuse the whiskey with it, and the dreamy scent of it all reminded me that Arnold Palmers had been requested for our river lunch. And once I’d nailed down the recipe and was staring down the leftover apple tea, I heard rhetorical voice.

Listen, I love an Arnold Palmer as it normally comes, but this was something else entirely. If there’s anything at all that a classic AP was missing, it was crisp apple juice.

Take 16 oz of your favorite apple juice and heat it up on the stove, not quite boiling. Into that, toss 4 bags of black tea and let it steep for five minutes. Ditch those tea bags and hit it with 3 ounces of fresh lemon juice and 3 ounces of 2:1 simple syrup.

Let the whole thing cool down and pour it over a lot of ice into large glasses. Or fill a Nalgene with ice and take it to the river. You’ll be really, really happy that you did.
